Hi
i haven't seen anyone mention these so I just thought I would point out Atlas' post on Facebook from the train show they were at this last weekend. Hopefully they will announce them soon! They look pretty sweet.

These are the former Weaver containers, and even though they are an obsolete style it will be nice to see them available again. Also nice to see pics of the 53' cars and containers decorated.
Oooh, I forgot about those from the Weaver deal. They actually look nicer than the ones I have. Might just be the paint. I hope they fixed the pins and holes to line up with their 40's, 45's and 53's. Those should be sweet.
My name is Elliot and I'm a containerholic...
The pins and holes have been modified to mate with our 40, 45, and 53' containers. Also, the screw mounting lugs on the bottom have been removed. As you can see from the Facebook post, they fit nicely in the bottom of the well car and a 53' container stacks perfectly on top.
NYK and Triton will be the first two names released. There are more in the works.
This is good new.
Before the closure of Weaver, I repainted an AtlasO 45 container plus two weaver containers in the same paint scheme. They lined up perfectly and I was able to use my own pins to hold them in place.
I'm not surprised about this as it seemed logical for Atlas to introduce this into their line. The pics above look really nice!
Love to see them in P&O blue with the flag. Every time I see one of any size they demand a high price.
I believe the original origins of this container are from the former Right Of Way Industries. Weaver then picked them up and modified them. Now it's Atlas O's turn to shine the light on them. I still wonder though what happenned to the ROWI 40' scale containers. They have yet to resurface in the marketplace.
I'd love to see an O-scale Alaska Marine Lines container from this Atlas line. I'd buy quite a few.

that is great news! Can't wait to hear about pricing, are they going to be sold individually or in sets, and timelines.
Love the Triton paint! They look great!

oh man! I know I will be buying some of these to go with the 53 foot ones I have on order. VBG.

Beautiful, nice looking boxes.
Would love to see some "ferrin" ones such as the old Polish Ocean Lines (with the trident logo) or UASC with the Arabic lettering. Would make for a nice "diverse" train.
These must be made in America for such quick turnaround!
I'm definitely in for the Triton (four or six). I assume there is no pre-ordering. They are just making a big batch and its first-come first served?

Definitely has it's advantages.
Sounds like it's time to get to know the Muffin Man. I'm good for a couple 2 packs each, don't want to over do it. I'm sure more flavors will be coming, and my cars are already over populated to the point where I'm using containers for scenery.
This made my day! I need at least 6 to a dozen. VBG

Look again, it's a 2 pack for that price. My guess is they'll use the old 40' packaging. Why not? Helps keep the price down.

For the older twin stacks, yes. For the 53' cars, no. Even Atlas's website says "In the late 1970s squared corrugations with double logo panels were the common new-builds." It's an accurate description. Around 1995 they started changing to eliminate the logo panels and started angled corrugations and corrugated roofs.
Thanks fellas I appreciate the info.

Atlas is apparently emphasizing on the March delivery so, if they are being made in the USA and being decorated here too, probably using the Weaver pad printing stuff, double kudos to them!
Actually the Atlas Order/Ship chart shows orders closing for these containers Mar 9 and a March estimated ship date [from the builder] just saying!
The pair of Weaver Models 20' Containers that I had were Made in China.
Since they are rather small with no operating parts, the production of them has to be fast.
Perhaps they are being delivered to the USA on a cargo aircraft.

Got mine ordered, all sixteen of the first run. I think the pricing on these is great!
I can't wait to see them!

Stephen,
The 20ft containers might be from the same era as the Gunderson cars with bulkheads but I am unsure if 20ft containers were ever loaded in these cars. Both My Atlas-O TTX Gunderson Stack cars from the most recent run have markings “DO NOT LOAD 20 FT CONTAINER on each of the C-D-E cars I also came across this image of the real Gunderson car with the same markings. When I asked this question over a year ago someone on these forums mentioned that the Pecos River Brass models also had similar markings. I speculate that it must be difficult to get the crane through the narrow confines between the bulkheads, if the 20ft containers are in the lower level.
These are just my opinion,
Thanks,

That is because the 20' containers were only loaded in the A and B cars. And that was true in all articulated well cars, not just the twin stacks. Whether or not it is still true I do not know.

Shhhhhh, don't tell MTH.
I think this was true on the LOPAC articulated cars from thrall. Check out this old picture. The end "B" unit says "40 ft containers only"
On the articulated container spine cars units a,b,& E held two 20ft. Containers.
hibar posted:Only the first 4 listed on the Aug 2016 surprise announcement have been produced, NYK and Triton are most likely in the future.
Triton & NYK were the first containers available from Atlas-O dealers early, 2016. When I bought the following Atlas-O 20’ Triton containers when I stopped by Mr. Muffin’s Trains’ store last April, all the NYK 20’ containers were already sold out.
These are just my opinion.

Has anyone tried putting these in the older twin stack cars??
I purchased a bunch from Peterson Supply last year an use them in my Atlas Gunderson Maxi Stacker (40 / 45 Ft), use them in my Lionel and MTH cars. Trying to get few Atlas Flat Cars to add one or two. Love them. At my BCMRRC show in Pearl River, NY this past weekend I ran a 3 five (5) cars sets with a mix of containers and this was a huge hit. Love them. they are great.
How the in-laws doin?
They are just fine.
Naveen,
Have you tried putting these in the Gunderson twin stack Atlas cars? The permanent pins on the bottom of the containers make the containers sit slightly lopsided when placed on the base of the cars. Am I doing something wrong or missing something? Also when placing 40' containers on the base of these cars do you leave the pins out of the containers? I just bought a set and am stilling playing around with everything that I bought. Thanks

No, I have not tried to mount these new Atlas-O 20’ containers in my Atlas-O 5-car Gunderson cars. Most of my trains are already packed in preparation for the potential relocation.
To the extent, I still remember an earlier discussion on these O-Gauge forums, someone recommended removing the pins on the bottom of the 20’ containers & drilling holes to receive the Atlas-O pins that would make them fit with other Atlas-O 40’ & 45’ containers but I haven’t tried these modifications.
I didn’t need pins to secure the 40’ containers in either the bottom or top position on the Atlas-O 5-car Gunderson cars. The tall end bulkheads secured the containers quite well.
These are just my opinion.
Thanks,
Naveen Rajan

You are correct that the molded in pins do not directly line up to fit with anything except other Atlas 20' containers. And that will not be changed for the foreseeable future. I cut them off and drill a hole in their place and use either the pins that come with the 40-53' containers or a short piece of brass wire.
Would be nice if Atlas offered their mtg pins for sale as a separate part
I agree, I lost 2 of those little pis a while back so now, the minute I open the box I glue the pins in - makes it harder to put back in the box but they don't get lost.
K
Update: I cut off one side of the pins on the Atlas 20' containers and they fit much better. After looking closely at how they fit into the Gunderson twin stack cars the outside pins float as there is no solid surface to place them on, but the inside pins hit cross sections and make the containers look crooked. The 20' containers still do not fit 40' or 45' containers when it pertains to pin holes and pins so they need to work on that but overall if you want to complete a twin stack with four 20' containers then these are great. Thank you all for your input. You helped me tremendously!!
