Hello all!

After a 3 year hiatus while my teenage daughter took over the basement,I have chucked the old sofa and TV out and am ready to plan again!

This will be my 3rd layout. My 1st had a lot of switches, stubs and covered most of the space. There was a good deal of operation on the layout.

The 2nd was a basic loop runner in a 12x12 donut hole setup with 4 independent loops. Easy to build, smooth running, but more just start the trains and let them go.

Since I now have a Mac my RR Track software is useless…does anyone make a good one for the Mac?

I would like anyone is is interested to take a whack on a track plan for me. For the available space picture a U shape..the left side wall would be 12',the back wall would be 24' and the right side leg would be 16'.

I want something that would be close in to the walls..not a full 4' sheet of plywood out. What would be the minimum for a 2 track main, with room for a siding on some section. .I would also like to put structures up against the wall. I am willing to go to 48" on each end to turn the trains around.Elevation, tunnels are are in the mix. A center island is possible..would like to see plans with or without. I use gargraves track and Ross curves/switches.

I know some have posted you should not run track parallel to walls…OK show me both..I am open to all suggestions.

I am glad to be back and look forward to looking at what you all would do.

     Thanks,

                  Jack

Any section of layout against a wall no deeper than 30 inches.  That is the maximum comfortable reach.

In straight areas, O scale track may be spaced 3.5 inches apart...4" is the recommended minimum.

On curves, it is a different story.  You need greater spacing.  However, it depends upon how sharp the curves will be and how long the cars are.

Last comment, I would suggest having two staging yards, one on each end of your space, the "sides" of the U shape and build a main-line along the 24 foot length.

This area would be excellent for a short line logging, point-to-point design...enable with a continuous option possibly.
