Unless, of course, you can convince me that Ross is the way to go. I've been using Gargraves flextrack so far.

You might buy a pair of Gargraves switches, a pair of Ross switches, set them up on a temporary layout, run the heck out of them, and convince yourself.
There is no reason you have to build the entire layout with untested components. What you will/can learn from a temporary layout might save you hours and dollars of frustration.
I was on the phone with Gargraves this morning. I was told that at one time, in the past, they had issues with their switches but that is no longer the case. We shall see....

Buy one of each and you will find out that there is nothing out there better than Ross. Don't get me wrong I love Gargraves track and I do own a single Gargraves switch (a siding going to my coal mine). My money was spent on Ross. They are the simply the best.

I ordered manual switches. Hopefully they'll be fine for half the price.

I bought 6 Gargraves manual switches for my freight yard about 2 years ago and they all came with plastic ground throws installed. The Ross switches on my main lines (also manual) did not come with the ground throws. These are made by Caboose Industries if I recall. The current photos on Gargraves website show the manual switches with the ground throws attached, so I think you will be fine.
Read the wiring instructions carefully. I haven't installed the Gargraves switches on the layout yet, but you may need to attach several wires to each switch. I had to do this with the Ross switches. It is much easier to attach the wires before installing the switch onto the layout.
Since I haven't installed the Gargraves switches yet, I can't compare their function with the Ross Switches. I have found the Ross switches to be excellent.
