No - One train will be happy by itself running along the track.  But - as time goes you might want to add a second Locomotive and a second train.  Also - you might want to add some track activated accessories such as a crossing gate or semaphore signal.   You could add some fiber pins along your track layout to make blocks, but just wire them all together for now.  Better to plan ahead.  It is more difficult to add insulated blocks or insulated control rails later after you have already laid down your track.

Agreed.  It is much easier to plan for expansion than to tear up track and re-do.  Especially if parts are in difficult-to-reach areas.
