Campgrounds near York Meet

Stay at the fairgrounds.  Not sure what the cost is but it's close to the York Meet.

That is really interesting I did not know that you can stay right at the Fairgrounds.

Has anyone else done this and how did it work out?

I have used Indian Rock campground just south of the FG, since they only let you camp on the FG a few days and everybody just loves to move camp...Not! But they were sometimes not open in early April. Another was over at Carlisle...Much farther.. Forgotten whether it was a KOA. Used two at Gettysburg, one on 15 just east of town may be closed, but there was a KOA west of town.

Was there a dump station at least to empty your holding tanks before you left?

Where on the Fair Grounds did you park your RV?  Behind the Grandstands and in front of the Silver hall

What kind if any hookups were available? T the spaces behind the grandstands have full hookups however they go fast the other spaces haves water and electric available.

Was there a dump station at least to empty your holding tanks before you left? Dump station is located on the far end of the grandstands near gate 6

Well, I hope you find my recollections helpful. In the eighties, a friend and I took his camper to York, and I remember the registration form saying to put down your RV's plate number. I don't know if there was a fee then as he registered the RV. He was selling, I was along for the ride.

We parked on a grassy area quite close to where you signed in on the morning the show opened. There were other RVs there. We pulled in after dark, and did nothing else that first night. There were restrooms open all night as we had a VW camper, and it didn't have a "head." I don't think there were hookups of any kind, nor a dump station at the fairgrounds. The bigger RVs had their generators running.

Ah. I see the questions have been answered. I do recall the restrooms that were open were under the grandstand. Either those amenities were not there over 30 years back, Or I didn't notice them because we had no need of them.

DPG, I have stayed on the fairgrounds in our motor home many times. There are scores of sites all over the fairgrounds. Most have only 30-amp service, however some of the sites beyond the grandstand on the far side of the track have 50-amp electric. There is no water or sewer at most of the individual sites, but for the duration of the York meet, that's not a big deal. There is a single dump station towards the west side of the fairgrounds.

There is a separate RV registration for the meet, should you decide to do this. It's $40.

You said that you will make it back to York, but you didn't know you can stay on the fairgrounds???  if you have been to York, you must have seen all the motor homes there.

Rich, You could stay in 1000 or more motels for what that motor home cost you.

My friend has a camper on his pickup truck and he camps at the fairgrounds every York. He loves it and he says you can't beat the price.

Only if they were really cheap rooms. 

She looks nice, but she's 11 years old now. We bought it when she was 6 years old, and we bought it right. When we travel all day I spend $150 on fuel. You spend $150 for a room.

How long does the chassis on one of those last, in miles? I looked at those, but my experience with gasoline vehicles, is that they are shot at 100,000, and then a trade is less concern.  I used a camper pickup at York when it was free to park there, but it takes up storage room, and unless l still had access to family farms, storage hassle of a motor home vs. time spent using it didn't make sense for me. It was constant overhead costs vs. sporadic motel costs.

I think it's $51.00 for the RV registration if you do it on line.  At least that's what the meet notice says.

It's been 5 years since I was there and since then I have suffered 2 heart attacks open heart surgery and 2 strokes so forgive me if my memory isn't what it should be. I saw some motorhomes but it seemed that they were for the Dealer presenters and I really don't remember much about the parking lot.

This is the first time since then that my wife thinks I'm well enough to go and I'm rather excited.

Ours is built on a Freightliner chassis with a Cummins ISL 400 hp engine and an Allison 3000 transmission. At 11 years old and 90,000 miles, that Cummins  diesel is just broken in. I follow the Freightliner maintenance program to the letter and have had no problems with the drive train or chassis at all. The chassis will outlast the house built on top of it.
