I have an old N Gauge layout that goes up every Christmas.  There is now a lot of roadbed noise I think because the cork roadbed on the layout is old and hardened.  I would rather not have to tear it all up.

Has anyone ever softened old cork roadbed with a substance of some sort?

Thanks,

John

They are actually noisier than you might think.  Motor whine, tiny driveshafts that start to wear, trucks that wobble.  They are telegraphed on a hard surface.  After running both O Gauge and N Gauge (some) noises coming from a larger locomotive seem more acceptable than disproportionate noise from a tiny one.

Example

Then there is working on them especially when you get older
