Hello I have the NYC Legacy Sharks 2133250. They are in my Legacy controller as Train #1. When I try to run them in the Lionchief app, it only shows the lead A unit with sound. Both units will run but the 2nd A unit will only connect nose to tail. What am I doing wrong? It would seem odd that Lionel promotes bluetooth for these engines but you can't run them prototypically tail to tail. Thanks in advance for any advice.

What am I doing wrong? Not reading the details in the manual specific to your set. You go to the product support page for your set https://www.lionelsupport.com/...GACY-Sharks-AA-Set_2

In your manual, Lionchief app usage starts on page 21 and has the same message as below.

What you are describing is perfectly normal.

Again, the app will ONLY ever show and list the lead unit, this is because the second A is NOT programmed to show up as an engine and instead you hope and pray it receives the commands that are being received by the lead engine. I didn't design this protocol- so don't shoot me, but yes, that's more or less how it works. Your remote or app connects to the lead engine, while the second A "listens" only, and follows the commands it sees being sent to the lead A.

You are experiencing the limitations of the Bluetooth system as implemented and designed by Lionel.

Also note, in your manual on page 41 regarding muliple unit operation under bluetooth.

Bottom line is still valid from that other topic:

Bluetooth really is hit or miss.  You have to run  them one forward and one facing opposite direction. Only 1 engine displays on app if they are sold as a pair.

Actually the opposite is true. Both units are powered A's and only the lead shows up. The second responds the same way so it must be pointed in the same direction as the lead. Therefore Lead A rear to 2nd unit nose.  Maybe someone can tell me different.

Thanks

All my Bluetooth AA sets operate  A<--- direction ---->A.  There is no way to change the way they face via Bluetooth.  Unless they put the wrong board in it.  How about a video of your issue?   Now in legacy you can operate it anyway you want.  Setting it one way in legacy will not change it in Bluetooth operations

Tom These work fine with my Legacy controller. When they are connected tail to tail in Lionchief they pull against one another. When connected tail to nose, they operate exactly the same and run together. My guess is because they are both powered the 2nd unit responds that way. Obviously a dummy would be only a light issue. I just thought it was odd that they are marketed as bluetooth control but not really. Are any of your AA bluetooth combos both powered? What am I missing?

Ray,

I believe all Lionel AA sets where both AA units are powered whether they are TMCC or Legacy are built where one unit starts in Forward and the other starts in reverse. I have a TMCC Century Club PRR Sharks both powered. I programmed each unit as the same engine number and run them as an engine not a train. Try reprograming you AAs to the same engine number and give them a try.  I have not tried this in Bluetooth using the Lionel app using one of the latest AA sets but I would be willing to bet they do. Again this is how Lionel builds their AA sets where both AA units came together as a set (individual Legacy engines such as a SD70 and a SD60 cannot run in Bluetooth back to back. Don’t know if Lionchief engines do the same as Legacy and TMCC AA sets or even if Lionel ever made a set with both powered.
