Now that I have my first electric locomotive, I am thinking about the overhead wire that so characterizes such locomotives.  I have one electric out of a total fleet of six locomotives.  At what point would catenary be worth installing? (It doesn't have to be operational.)  Would you "electrify" your layout, in whole or in part, for just one engine?

Aaron, if you plan on eventually getting more electric locomotives, and like the look of the catenary and don't mind the work to install it, I would do it.

But probably not for a single electric.  Of course, steam and diesel locomotives ran under the wire too.

It also depends on how far along you are with your layout.  You might want to finish other scenery before installing catenary.
