I have finally decided to build a permanent layout using a lionel system. There are so many track systems out there but if you are looking for realism, variety of switches and ease of wiring whats the best choice atlas, gargraves, ross, lionel or MTH. Thanks

For realism, in my opinion, it would be Atlas. For availability and variety of switches it would be Gar Graves and Ross. From a wiring stand point I think all switches wire up the same way but I am not familiar with Fast Track or the MTH version. My choice was Ross switches and Gar graves track. This topic comes up quite frequently...........Paul
My Railroad uses MTH Real Trax because of its cost, variety and ease of installation. However if I build a new railroad, the track would likely be Atlas. Gargraves is my first choice, but the cost and complexity of Ross switches, crossings, etc is way too high for my budget.
Go through the older post....we did this last week,,,,,and every week it seems. Gargraves + Ross......
For me it is atlas, and mostly atlas switches but using some Ross special sketches to support the tract plan.
personally I like the solid rail and the look.
I am using mainly tubular track, Lionel and Gargraves with Ross Custom switches. If I had to do it over I would go only with Gargraves track and Ross Custom switches. With tubular track you can cut to fit without any issues.
I tried Lionel's Fastrack and got totally FED UP with it!!
