I am about to lay an O-42 quarter turn curve in side of an O-54 curve. How far apart should the track centers be placed going in to curves so as to avoid contact as trains pass each other through out the turn?. I use Ross/Gargraves track and O-54 engines and freight are the largest I will run on this loop.

Are you laying them with the same center of the arcs which puts them 8" center to center apart?
Wouldn't that be 6 in?
Same center of arcs.
Doug N you are correct at the 6" centers. (12" /2 = 6")
Isn't that about right? The overhang/swing would be less than smaller curves, say 036 or 031.
I don't have anything that is long enough to be of any use to measure.
