After years of reading posts, and asking questions, here at OGR, and as a result of all of the great education, and help that I have received here, I finally have my table completed and the first (outer) loop of Ross track and switches laid and fully connected up to and running:
Many thanks to all of the individuals who have taught me and helped me to get to this point with my layout.
Following are several pics to tell the story.
1) The original table was a rectangle with just a loop of FastTrack so that I could at least run trains, while I finished up the larger design and built the "L" to add to the rectangle.
2) Adding the "L" leg to the rectangle:
3) Completed grass mat table covering and laid down the outer loop of Ross Track and switches:
NOTE: This loop contains only two sets of Reg 11 Crossover switches that lead to the, soon to be ordered, inner loop
4) Added casters, wheels, so the table can be rolled around to allow access to the left and rear sides of the layout:
5: Curbing added all around, along with beginnings of the command center:
NOTE: Handles strategically placed for proper gripping when rolling the table around:
There are several others that are not shown.
6) Power Supply - 4000 Jewel surge protector:
7) Track power wiring and beginnings of Ross Switch wiring:
NOTE: Loops 1 & 2. and Sidings are completed at this stage, on front panel.
A) Top Side Track Power switches:
B) Front side panel wiring:
C) Back side track panel wiring to track drop locations:
NOTE: Only Loop 1 has bee all connected up.
a) Separate hot wires lead straight from block switches, at front side panel, to
specific track position terminal block locations.
b) Common from front side panel, into terminal block, with jumper bar connecting
it to the three track locations.
c) All wires from front side to back side have been labeled at each end.
NOTE: Cables out to track are connect between Hot and Common terminal blocks.
D) Track power hookup:
a) All track wiring, from transformer, thru switches, to back side panel via 14 awg
stranded wire.
All track wiring to from back side panel to track drops via 14 awg speaker cable (White Jacket), labeled at each end.
b) Track drops are 18 awg, stranded, wire
c) TVS at each location (If you look closely it can be seen one on the far side of the terminal block).
E) Track connection vie spade connectors:
a) I was concerned about them possibly being pulled out from the bottom.
So I decided to bend them a 90 degrees an run the off to the side, then down thru the table.
That way I am never pulling straight down on them when working under the table.
9) Beginnings of Turn Out wiring (Front Side Panel) at right side of track power:
A) Hot and Common from B/U location on ZW-C into right and left, lower, terminal blocks respectively.
NOTE: Extra positions on lower terminal blocks are for additional accessory groups, such as uncouplers, etc....
B) Commons directly from Turn Out actuators to the upper (16 position) terminal block.
C) Single Hot wire will go around to (16 position) terminal block on the back side panel;
NOTE: There will be 15 turn out actuators. plus the supply = 16 positions.
1) Top Side Turn Out actuators:
2) Front side panel:
NOTE: No back panel yet, but it is coming along.
