I am running the following in Conventional and wnat to add DCS and am confused as to how to go about this:

1. A Z-4000 controling an inner loop on one handel and an outer loop on the other.

2. Another Z-4000 controling a three (3) track yard on one handle and an Engine/Round House on the other.

So my question is, "How do I add the DCS system to this easily to be able to run with bothe the DCS and the Conventional engines?".

Gerry,

The "quick & dirty" answer is to simply cut the wires between each Z4000 handle and its track, and insert a TIU channel input and output. That will then generate a lot of questions that you'll ask here on the forum without any basis upon which to completely understand the answers.

The better way is to purchase a copy of The DCS Companion 3rd Edition, and gain a real understanding of what is DCS, how it works and what to do to maximize your DCS experience.

DCS Book CoverEverything that you need to know about DCS is all in “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition!"

This book is available from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at OGR’s web store!

There is a device, Z4000 receiver, MTH used to make and may still be available that enables one to control the output voltage of the Z4000 directly from the remote.  Without these, a remote can only control the output of the TIU variable channels.  If you want to run conventional from the remote, using it as a walkaround control, and cannot find any of these, you'd need a second TIU.  If you can find one of these Z4000 receivers, you can get by with only one TIU, to have walkaround control.

Gerry49er,

While everything these gentlemen are saying is true, I agree with Barry, invest in the DCS Companion 3rd Rev book, also if you are into visual learning the OGR Video Guide to DCS is a great visual teaching guide to DCS, especially great for the DCS beginner.  I believe you can now purchase both thru the OGR on line store, right here on the OGR Forum.
