DCS DEATS FILTERS QUESTION | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

Hi guys,

This may be a dumb question but......

I was in the process of assembling some DCS Filters that Susan Deats shows on her website.

In the parts list below Susan specifies 12 inches of #22 gauge solid insulated copper wire. Does anyone know if there is any significance to the length of the wire? Can the wire be shorter than 12 inches for each filter?

1 Metallized Polyester Film Capacitors 0.1uF 100volts 5%

Insulation for bare contacts – Hot Glue, Liquid Tape, or Rubber Electrical Tape with Liner
> (be sure insulation will not conduct a 6 MHz signal)

I did not follow that when I built mine and they work great. I think that's an estimate of what wire length would be used to make and connect the filters.

Let's see what the experts say....

The wire length should be of no consequence at all.

With the Rev L TIU, we are past bulbs and filters. If you are using an older TIU, they will work good for you.

Angelo, the wire length suggestion is for parts purchasing only. The wire length should be as short as conveniently possible.
