Setup: single tiu rev L 4.20 using fixed 1 for my 3 rail and fixed 2 for my  2 rail.  I use 2 remotes, one for 3 rail and one for 2 rail.

My question? my 3 rail remote id address 4 has a 5 engine mu marked NS5. Can i use my 2 rail remote using id 4 marked 2 engine Pan Am?

You may be able to do it.... I know it's possible to have  2 or 3 engines with the same ID number.(edit to that address and then delete from the remote.)  Remember IDs stick with the engine however the name will be a problem and either remote will try to issue commands to ID 4.   Nah. not worth it and the lash-up  makes things even more complicated.

On the other hand... try it.

I had always hoped that MTH would have adopted the four digit addressing that can be used. I realize that older engines wouldn't store them. I would have hoped that newer ones would and could be set to the name and road number right on the engine. I know the name can include it. I now own too many and have to use multiple remotes.

I have worked around some of this on my own. My poor memory made it tuff. When I park the engines for a season and don't keep any logs, I don't remember anything the next season that I run them. I used to make log sheets of my DCC engines in HO. It had to include each make of decoder and model number so that I could control their functions and reprogram them down the road. At least with all DCS inside now, I don't have that issue. The log keeping would still help.

I do have some TMCC engines that I forget what numbers I've assigned those to as well. I don't use them as much. I usually pull them out at Christmas and struggle to remember what makes them work.

Bill,

Man when I rebuild the layout starting around Thanksgiving, I got to admit that I think I should have made the Master Log the year before, not using one usually takes me a couple hours to get every thing back up and running.  I have been viewing this as part of having a good time, with rebuilding the Christmas layout.  The older I get however the more I know the master log is soon on the must do agenda.  I am lucky however, in that I do not have as many engines as some of the other members, other wise things round here could get down right seriously frustrating.  Part of the pleasure I get out of our hobby, is Re-Engineering and changing different things on my Christmas layout each year as I reconstruct the layout.  NOW WHERE DID I PUT THAT STUFF, AND WHICH ONE OF THESE ENGINES IS WHICH.
