I have a Lionel TMCC engine that I have added via an Lionel command base connected to my T IU and it shows on .y dcs remote but won't start up. A video I watched said there is a program/run switch on the engines. Not engine doesn't seem to have such a switch. This engine is a Jr Mikado from the early 2000 I would guess. I have no manual for the engine. Any suggestions?

Any suggestions?

Give us the cab or box number of the engine,  Maybe we can look it up. If it's a Lionel  TMCC there must be a run/program switch someplace. To add to the DCS remote the TMCC address must be know .  (what do you press to run with the cab-1? engine??)

The only other way is to add the engine as you've already done and then edit the TMCC address, However you need to find the run/program switch.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have much info other than the cab #1842.

There should be two switches under the cab, one on each side.  One is the run/program switch.

Can't see any switches. Beginning to think I got misled by a what I thought was a reputable dealer who told me that this was a tmcc loco. I traded some nice items for this engine and I'm n o t going to be a happy camper. The interesting thing is I had sounds running g conventionally now no sounds. Maybe it's the connection between the lionel command base but that doesn't explain   o program/run switch on the engine. This engine # seems to have been part of a set and says it's a tmcc  engine.

If your loco and tender look like the pic I posted above, with the tether between loco and tender, my previously posted link is the CORRECT manual.

The program/run switch is the "command reverse on/off" switch in the back of the cab.

Yes, this is the engine it appears. The manual gives directions for power masters. I am using lionel command base connected to a TIU. Still don't find any switches on my engine.

Thanks for your help, David. Without that pic I with my eyes would still be looking. Now to see if I have the command base and the tiu connected properly. I watched a video of connecting base to TIU and it said or showed no power supply unit for the command base. Appears you need one. Think the # is 610-2911-010 and can't find that anywhere. Wish I never got into this now and just stuck with all MTH engines.

Ralph,

You're very welcome.   Don't despair.  Once you get past this very brief initial learning curve, having TMCC and DCS on your layout is wonderful.

I will say the instructions on the earlier TMCC locos are not the best.

here are some basics that you need to run TMCC from your DCS remote.

  1. DCS system.   TIU and Remote
  2. TMCC Command base w/power supply
  3. TMCC Command Base to TIU serial cable
  4. Wire from TMCC command base (U) to each TIU OUTPUT you're using or:
  5. Run wire from TMCC command base (U) to an outide rail of each loop on your layout if the loops are isolated.

That's the basic.   When I get home later today, I can look at my Command base and let you know what kind of power supply you need if you go aftermarket.   Keep in mind it needs to be a 3-prong adapter to plug into your house grounded outlets.

Lastly, I would highly recommend Barry Broskowitz's  DCS e- book he sells here on the forum.

All of these things are discussed in detail.

and never be afraid to ask questions.

We'll get you up and running!
