Question on curved track: I laid 031 around a mountain in a double "S" curve with some straight in-between, but it seems a bit tight; the RS3s negotiate it at slow-to-moderate speed but can I ease the pain with 042 or do I need to go to 054? Thanks.

Yes, I agree. If you can, go with the largest curve possible.
If you want to run large engines, go with the largest curve you can-O72 or larger. The new linoel and mth diesels are 18in and larger, they must have larger curves. My uncle built a small curve layout and hates he did. If you have the real estate, go big.
Thanks everybody! My outer (double loop cross-over, 140') is 072. My next two are 054.
