Do you ever "update" your RR-Tack Plan?

I did.  I felt an "As Built" pan would give me a place to test future additions and modifications.  Also, I am planning to a print shop and have them print out an annotated, oversized copy to mount beneath plexiglass to form the control panel switch.  I'll also be mounting a reversed image of the layout to the backside to help with the wiring.  I'll mount the turnout control buttons and other control switches through holes drilled through the panel.

I do & then when I make changes & can print out the material list & compare to the last one & I know exactly what to order.  I also make notations on the plan like where my power drops & what tap one the ZWC they come from & other important notes I want to make sure I don't forget as I grow older.

Here's what I would do:

1. Save your original plan under a new name (e.g., MyPlan_updated.rrt).  
2. Then, work on the new file and make your updates.
3. ~Perhaps~, print them both out and put them on the train room wall to show people a "before and after" of what you had planned vs. what you actually built.  Assuming any guests were also train guys, you all might might enjoy discussing the ins and outs of the decisions you first made and then the how's -- and why's -- concerning transitioning from the initial plan to your final result.

Frankly, I would update a copy of the original just for the giggles but, then again, I have a notoriously low threshold of amusement...

Creating an "as built" may be the only thing that is prototypical about my layout.

I also do it to assess any future changes for viability.

I am also afflicted with a low threshold of amusement when it's related to model trains.

I'm on Iteration 6 of my layout. Yes, I go back and update RR Track when I discover and fix issues that occur on the actual layout, not just with track placement but with actual running and the small issues that pop up (turn and switch location, etc.)

And, I'm still not sure I'm satisfied with how it all is. I see room for changes that might make a better overall experience, so I keep piddling in RR Track all the time. It's almost become another hobby in itself, playing with different designs for different spaces.

I do it so that any further additions can be made on accurate information. I like printing the plan out to the table and already knowing where my components go. If I was 100% certain no addition would be made I don't know if I'd be concerned about it or not.

Well, I did mine so many times I had to number them.

Now I've moved so I'm back to proposed #3.

No Benchwork or track laid yet, still deciding what I want.

But Hey a 16' x 40' space, this needs to be thought out.
