Put this layout together from a post here. When my train comes out of the 031 corners, into the back side of the switch for a turn, the forward loco truck will push through the switch points and go straight while the back of the loco makes the turn. Would a small straight (1-3/8”) help it through the corner?

1) Are the locomotive and pilot wheel sets utilized rated for O31 operation?
2) Is the pilot mounted properly with a strong enough spring etc...
3) Are the pilot wheels correctly gauged?

5) While a 1 3/8" straight section may help with a geometry issue, it shouldn't need to be done...
First off make sure you switch is working correctly and the points are tight to the rails. You put a bit stiffer spring on the front truck but be careful you can go to stiff. Make sure the trucks are not bent out of whack as well. More info would be nice too switch manufacturer, engine
The Lionel Union Pacific Flyer 0-8-0 is rated for 031 curves. It’s the forward set of wheels pushing through the switch point since this loco doesn’t have leading or following trucks. Track is Lionel fastrack.

Ahh - Thanks for clarifying @SanDogDewey. The 0-8-0 doesn't have a pilot... the first set of drivers is the issue.
Is this the only locomotive that has the issue? Other locomotives traverse just fine?
It may help to take a video close up on the track and wheels as it happens.
I ended up taking the switch apart and filing down the switch points. I filed the casting off the side that meets the rail and put more bevel on the point. They are working well now.
Yes, you did the correct thing. Fastrack manual switches are known for this defect (improper contour of the point rails).
