I had a system working and I did a factory reset in order to clear the old engine and switch data. With my new layout it worked fine until I reset the TIU. I tried setting up the various base settings in the TIU but I cannot even read its ID number. Any suggestions out there would be appreciated!

Was it TIU number one before? Counting the red light flashes when you power it up will tell what number it thinks it is.
First off, the engines are in the remote, not the TIU.
If you did a Factory Reset, it's now TIU #1, make sure the remote has TIU #1 as well. Do you have more than one TIU? Do you now have a couple on TIU #1? That will confuse things if you do.
AS bobby & guns mentioned, The only way to know the tiu's number is to count the red led blinks.
1 blinks means it tiu #1
2 blinks means it tiu #2 and so on. up to 5
Unfortunately dcs will allow us to add any tiu number to the remote whether it exists or not.
So count the blinks and make sure the proper tiu has been added to the remote, You may have to add, delete or edit the tiu under the tiu set up.
Maybe this will help for next time.... A tiu feature reset resets the tiu but the tiu retains it's ID number.
One extra thing, I believe that when you reset the TIU, you may lose the TIU associations to the engines. So if you get the dreaded "engine not on track", that's why. You will need to press the "read" button, everytime you go to run an engine already in the remote.
I had to do this when I upgraded to a new DCS version awhile back. It threw me at first. I also had to rebuild every single consist that was in the remote. Hopefully, that won't be needed here.
I'm not sure why you reset the TIU, just remember that all settings for the TIU are reset to factory.
Joe,
One extra thing, I believe that when you reset the TIU, you may lose the TIU associations to the engines. So if you get the dreaded "engine not on track", that's why. You will need to press the "read" button, everytime you go to run an engine already in the remote.
Actually, if the TIU is Feature Reset or if it is TIU #1 that is Factory Reset, no change in engine association takes place.
Thanks for the correction, (again!) Barry
To all Those who have replied, THANK YOU! This is the first time I have ever used the internet to find an answer to a problem and it is great idea. As for my problem: I feel I may have two issues, the first is that when I replaced the broken thumb wheel on the remote, a small "rubber band" fell out. I assume it is some sort of an insulator that prevents shorts on the PC board. I could not determine where it belongs. As for the reset issue, I do read that it is TUI #1 but I cannot read the TIU version which leads me to believe that I am not communicating with the TIU from the DCS Remote control. I tried the remote with the Radio and the headset cord to the TIU with the same results so I don't believe it's the radio side of the system. My system is over 7 Years old and has worked like a charm 3 days ago. All was fine until I got lazy and wanted to install it on my new layout. Instead of leaving well enough alone and editing the data, I figured I'd simply "clear it all out" and start from scratch. As old as I am, I still haven't learned to leave well enough alone.
