Foam depth

I'm at the stage of gluing foam on the plywood table. I currently have 1" sheets but I'm beginning to wonder if that's deep enough to create shallow streams. I would like to simply have a small bridge-like structure for the trains to cross the stream. Will 1" be too limiting?

Try to find the 2" Extruded Polystyrene in your area, if possible. That is what is usually used for scenery construction. And, of course, sheets of any thickness can be stacked and glued for additional depth.
