France is very rich in Autorails (self-propelled passengers cars) as it has a lot of small towns that were linked by the SNCF rails network. I have presented a few of the most famous ones and I remember seeing them still in service when I was a kid. These could all be projects for Sunset and/or MTH.

The famous Micheline Type 11 designed by the Michelin tires company.

One of my favorites: the Renault ABH8 used in Corsica and some other places.

The 5600 Type.....

And the gorgeous 4207 type.

There are many more but these are my favorites and are present in the memories of a lot of people.

Well, let's see:

  I. As far as the standard larger postwar machines:

    A.  MTH is planning on an X3800 Picasso

    B.  Lematec [ Lemaco ] has produced the X2400's in a variey of schemes

    C.  Protomodels have done the X2800's, again in a number of schemes.

II.  For the others I think brass or other kits are [ were ] available;  for example, an artisan firm called Loco Set Loisir produced a bronze kit of the X5600 [ FNC ] and matching trailer circa 1992, with Faulhaber motors.

III.  I guess my big question would then be "Then what ?";  without "Standard" trailers what do you run with the larger machines ?  If MTH is smart [ this is a hypothetical, rhetorical statement.....]  they will make the Picasso in powered and unpowered versions, so one could at least run a pair of them, but even so, without trailers a lot of the "operational fun" is gone.

Best regards, SZ
