Does this sound lame? I was thinking about putting a girder bridge in my layout, but i do not have any elevated track. Would it look silly/dumb to have a girder bridge at grade?

You could always build a valley with a highway or stream under it.

There is no right or wrong. It's your layout. You can do anything you want. The only person you have to satisfy is yourself. I've got plenty of things on my layout that shouldn't be but I like them & so there they are right or wrong.
On the lower level.
Note the hole in the layout, eventually a small piece was fabricated and added from the bottom to fill the hole.
You don't really need much clearance to justify a girder bridge. This one is on the level with only the thickness of the Homasote cut away underneath it.
