Ever since I attended a holiday train display at a local town hall 40 years ago, I’ve wanted a Flying Yankee, the 1935 B&M-Maine Central streamlined train.  But I’ve been put off by what’s available.  Lionel and MTH both modeled their versions on the Pioneer Zephyr, so made it a four-car train instead of three, and their models included an RPO section, which the FY didn’t have.  As a result, placement of the windows and doors is wrong, which bothers me.  The only “correct” version is the brass Korean import, which needs wide radius curves.  Has anyone done a kitbash or scratchbuild to get a more reasonable (shorter) length, but with the doors and windows closer to prototype?  I’d love to hear from anyone who’s also considered this dilemma.
