Hi and thank you in advance. When I was a kid I had a couple of conventional steam locos. Things were easy then. Now with everything new to me and with Lionel in obvious transition... I am sometimes lost.
I just purchased the new New Haven Atlantic, 1111. I'm powering a medium-sized layout with a Rail King Z1000. My layout is a very long dog bone. 20 feet long. Smallest curve is 056. I'm controlling the train with my phone via bluetooth.
So far, my operation has been buggy. First the sounds disappeared. I deleted the app and reinstalled. Problems solved.
Some questions:
1) Is the Rail King z1000 adequate for now?
2) Where do I set the throttle so that i don't hurt my train? It is odd for me (I was a conventional guy) to set the throttle and forget it.
3) Is there a better, safer transformer that you could recommend? I will never run more than two trains at once. They will pass each other on a siding. Should I just purchase a CW80? I know that larger transformers have voltage dials.
4) Will the Base3 make my experience better? I understand that I could run it with the Base3 app. I understand my train will have more features.
Thanks again for any insights or opinions that you would like to share.
