Help to ID trucks/axles for Lionel 602 baggage odd ball?

John,  those appear to be crude copies of a Lionel truck for about 1916-1920 or so.  One can tell that the rivets were hand pressed into the steel, Lionel's were much more even on the depth, spacing, and have less metal deformation around them.  Note that the middle cut-outs are not even, a sign they were hand cut, not stamped. As for the wheels/axels, several manufacturers (not Lionel) made cast and turned wheels and I would guess they are actually of Nuremburg origin with the pre gauged axels.

The actual trucks would have screw mounted just the same way except Lionel truck have a shoulder on them that the mounting screw threads into, with no limit tabs, and no washers.  Greenberg identified the correct truck as Type 2.

You should do with this what you want, its not a rare variation or anything.

Thanks Rob, good eye! I hadn't studied the trucks close enough but upon doing so, see what you mean. I'll hang onto them and the wheels/axles- makes no sense to junk them and full steam ahead on the Lionel trucks.

I guess I was on the right track... I am looking for a 603 roof for my baggage car. It's good to know it's a 602.

My trucks are like Rob said and they are screwed on and they do look a lot cleaner and they have tabs.

Gene hello, if you are having trouble finding the roof let me know. I have one spare original, in good shape but paint is very poor. I ended up replacing the trucks/wheels with Lionel originals of the time period.

Seems to me, the doors are the hardest to find in good shape and the ones you have in the pics are pretty good.
