2  brand new proto3 engines.  Both easily added to the remote but one engine's smoke unit fan is so  noisy  it almost over rides the engine sounds.

I tried   saving the master remote to the computer. It took a while but eventually got there. Here the bad part, when  copying  to the other remote s (8 of them)   2 engines were missing and one name was missing  although the ID was there...( No error messages).   I going to try again but this time have a pocket full of new batteries.  I finally gave up and came home in disgust... Maybe  try again Friday.

Gregg,

FWIW, my experience with these kinds of issues has always been that the problem was in the remote that was uploaded, and was present before the upload process was begun.

When one saves the contents of a remote to the computer, one should always include the current date in the file name so that earlier versions that worked can be reloaded.  Do you have an old version you can use to restore?

No , This is the first time I've tried it with version 5. &  I didn't include the date..  I think this may have been a battery issue.  Just before the upload to the computer  I loaded 2 new engine to the master  remote. Only one showed up on the copied version.     I'll give it another go next time over at the layout.  Thanks for the reply.

thanks for the reply.... I'll  reload the master remote  to the computer and try again next time over at the layout. It did seems strange 2 engines were  completely missing.

Pretty much another wasted day... Saved the master remote again to the computer with new batteries .. tried to copy again to remote #7 and pretty much the same thing.... Engines missing.   tiu missing... some names missing.

Remote #6  went a little better, nothing missing but nothing  much also worked. Tiu not found

The tiu were found with remotes that had not copied yet ..  I eventually got most things back by deleting and adding tiu back again... I had one run away and had to use the E-stop as well. Yep I know we have to cycle tiu power.   If I'd know this was going to be such a pain in the butt I would have left it alone... I did a feature reset on one engine and it's custom name disappeared  which  didn't help matters.

I'm an experienced DCS operator  but not so good with computers.    (but no error  messages).

Gregg,

Were you able to determine if the backup copy of the remote was actually flawed and missing the entries?

Yes , we have 8 remotes....  8 is the master with new batteries which I up- loaded and saved to the computer complete with date. No problems.

Downloading to other remotes.

Remote #7 had 2 engines missing.  a few names missing and even tiu missing.

remote #6  had everything except  one or 2 engine engine names.(however the read couldn't find some of the tiu.)

Unfortunately time flew by quickly and I  to go  home. . I  really wanted this to go well but it didn't so back to the old way. Place engine on programming track. line up the 8 remotes and  start adding and testing each engine add to remote. (track power down)

Bottom line   : the master remote had and still has all the entries , I'm just not sure where  some of the engines went   on the copy to other remotes.

 Not doing it again.

Gregg, a simple question, but one thing that's overlookable: before reloading a "slave" remote, you did a complete reset to wipe out all data?

Absolutely... I just can't figure out why it's not working. It takes about 15 minutes to load to computer and about the same to download to each remote.  There are 4 tiu and about 30 engines , no switches. I tried  4 different remotes and made sure the batteries were charged.  Laptop   Windows XP with the berklin? TIU  rs232 to computer  ubs adaptor.  I'm going to have to go back to the old way... I've  never had trouble loading  software version 5 or sound files with the same set up.

Have you tried it lately Robert?

Yes I do.  And several times since Loader V5 came out.  With no problems.  I have never used the USB computer-TIU cable, for I only have one Rev L.

Have you tried a different TIU?  When doing upgrades at York, I have encountered TIUs that had intermittent contact in the power supply jack ("AUX") and in the phone handset cord jacks.  These caused problems in uploading DCS software, and I'm sure they would also cause problems in loading DCS data.  You also might try a different serial cable and handset cord, and another USB terminal on the computer.

Yes that sounds like a plan. I do have a spare tiu and will use fixed 1 instead of the aux power supply but  I'm still restricted to the Lap top with only USB ports. Finding a USB port is no so easy even when things are working correctly... I appreciate the replies . May even have another go at this next week however the RC flying field  has dried up and now  open for business.  thanks  RJR. stay tuned.

Hey RJR... Success , Brought everything(8 remotes) home and used my home  desk top.  Once the loader found the tiu things went smoothly and  all remotes are now exactly the same.

However 2 new  proto-3 engines . one misses the watch dog every time and the other has a faulty smoke unit fan. I'm going to live with it as is...

Anyone received the 44 tonner  yet?
