Hi Denny what is the locomotive number for the 8048 your working on? I put a question here awhile ago for my SP SD40-T2 8521 6-28225 with the same question as you on how to remove the motor from the truck and really didn't get an answer to help me. I need to remove mine to lube the worm drive also and put on a new side frame that had zinc pests destroyed and I still don't have any idea how to do it. Did you remove the pickups on the truck to get to the screws to release the motor and truck? The trucks on this locomotive aren't the Liondrive type that twist off that Doug was talking about earlier. I need to drop the truck down to access the screws and the worm gear. Any help would really be appreciated on this one.

Gary

This is what I was told and did. Numbers refer to parts list.

On the bottom remove the roller close to engine center.  ( screw part 51 + roller)

On the top remove the small screw holding the center roller wire to the collector (part 9)  ( screw part 39)

On the bottom remove the roller insulator. (part 11 insulator and part 9 collector)

On the bottom under where the insulator was remove motor screw ( Part 50)

On the bottom remove the exposed motor screw. (part 46)

I removed both side frames.

Wiggle and jiggle and they will separate.

I'm 81 years old and did this disassemble  3 hours ago so at this time I most likely left out telling you something.

I tell you all this with my shop warranty.....out of the shop out of warranty.
