Hello everyone! I recently purchased a NIB never used Rev.I TIU which I'll be upgrading with the latest 5.0 software. This will be my first use of DCS and I plan connect a cab1 base to the TIU using MTH's #50-1018 tiu/tmcc connector cable so I can control both DCS and TMCC engines with the DCS remote. For now, my set-up will be a carpet central (partially on Persian carpet and partially on ceramic tile) with two FasTrack loops at first spanning approximately 6x8 and 4x6 powered by a Z-4000 transformer. I’m hoping to eventually expand it to 9x12 to 10x16 in size.

As said, I'm new to both DCS and TMCC and while reading another thread inthis DCS forum I noticed the term engineering filters mentioned. What are they and are they something I will need for my set-up? Also, although the TIU has 20 amp internal fuses should I add fast burning external fuses or circuit breakers to my set-up? If engineering filters, and/or external fuses/circuit breakers, or both would be desirable for my planned setup -- how many should I use, where should they be placed, and what size or amperage should I use? All other suggestions and advice also welcomed. Thanks.

Sounds to me like you don't need anything else to get up and running.    If you follow  B Broskowitz's wiring suggestions you're not going to need the "engineered filters"  . I tried them and had just as good results  with a light bulb. I think the filters  were designed for layouts with buss wiring and not the paired wiring as Barry suggests.

I like the bulbs and our are placed on each terminal block... They do make a difference.

I don't have a Z-4000 so I can't really comment on the breakers, (we're using Post War ZWs with 10 amp  glass fast blow 32 volt fuses) Seems your in great shape...have fun.
