I present to you the latest iteration of my pipe dream layout.  I've long been fascinated with the (mostly failed) experimental PRR locomotives S-1 ans S-2.  So, my goal is to have a large layout to run them both around and around.  My wife is behind the idea - as long as it can be taken apart and put away between sessions.  Here it is:

Track Layout

I had originally planned for a storage yard, but since I will be packing and unpacking track and trains before and after running, I scratched that idea.  The specter of disassembling 194 pieces of track and then trying to remember how they go back together was a little off putting.  By the time I had it together, It would be time to take it apart!  So, I decided to do it in large chunks.

Track Layout Sections

The plan is to test out my jigsaw skills and mount Lionel Fastrack to each section as shown.  Each section is shaped so that the track pins can be lined up and slid together quickly.  I'll put some sort of discreet latches between sections to make it more secure with heavy trains thundering down the track.  It will be laying on the floor.  There will be large open spaces for my son and I to sit in the loops and watch the action.  I want to put some grass and bushes along the edges and between tracks, but nothing too tall as it will likely be leaning against a wall while in storage.

There you have it.  Fairly boring compared to most of the layouts on here, but I can run a couple trains and turn them around, so I think it will work.  All the fun will come is blowing the whistles and watching the puffing smoke!

Any suggestions are welcome!
