For the layout experts -- which we all are! I downloaded this from Thortrains and thought it would be fun to set it up as a Christmas layout for the kids. (I use MTH Realtrax.) BUT ... the more I look at it, the more I see that there is no way to come out of the figure-8 unless the train is backed out -- or if going in the other direction, backed IN. Really not what I want the little guys to do. I even tried adding another set of switches to the figure-8, but that just reverses the direction. Am I missing something? Is it even possible to enter the figure-8 and come back out going in the same direction? Educate me? Thanks!

CORRECT. once you get into the figure-8 how do you get back to the mainline without backing out?
And .... that's the question!
Add a switch in the northeast corner to exit figure 8.
you need to add a reversing loop via another set of switches or an X-crossing where you have the switches with another set of switches.
Mark: Thanks. I tried it, but that just changes the direction of the train.
Alan: I believe that is the ONLY way to make this work. A little more complicated than I wanted it to be, tho. Thanks.
Thanks, NYC Fan ... I believe you have solved it!! I'm amazed that I couldn't see the forest for the trees -- I'll give it a go, and thanks again.
In addition to what NYC Fan showed you to resolve your problem, you could add 4 switches to make 2 straights between the loops of the figure 8 to give you reversing loops, a inner loop, and more track running options.
Thanks, Gary =- that's intriguing and I'll give it a try, too.
