This belongs to a friend of my wife. He runs it every Christmas. I offered to clean and oil it since it had not been serviced in a long time.
I got the body shell off, no problem. I thought there might have been a burned out smoke unit in there but no, it appears that there is a small red bulb positioned to glow from inside and be visible up the stack. It looks like a cardboard tube with a bulb, to keep the red from messing with the headlight, inside mounted in a sheet metal mount. But the wires to it are cut. The wire bundle is wrapped in silver electric tape kinda loosely. I would like to restore the light or maybe replace it with a flickering LED or ditch all of that and put in a smoke unit.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? He's got the passenger coaches to go with it, what I think is KLine O tubular track and the KLine transformer. Kind of a blast from the past. Oh and the horn doesn't blow. Pickup rollers in the tender. No connection to the tender other than the coupler. I tried the reversing the hookup wires thing. Still didn't work. Have not taken the shell off yet.
