Well, daughter #2 actually took some stuff out of the attic yesterday !   I am still at least a year away from being able to finish off the attic as far as drywall and heat.  But I have been busy working up track plans.  This is the latest in a long line of plans I've made using Railmodeler.  The area is 14' x 12'

I'm not that good with Railmodeler and as you can see, not that good with marking up a sketch.  The ovals at the top mean nothing.  The two straight red lines are where a 313 Bascule Bridge and a Marx Bascule Bridge will go.  The red arrow is pointing to where a Lionel MPC era bascule bridge will go.  The bottom right where there is a section of straight track connected to nothing indicates where a 350 Transfer Table will be placed.  The shaded area indicates an 18" wide isle, with entry at the bottom of the picture.  I plan to build the layout away from the walls so there will be access to all sides.

The curved track is O42 and O31.  Most of the switch tracks are O22, with two O72 shown in about the center.

I plan to install most of my operating accessories.  Culvert pair, Sawmill, Oil drum loader, Cattle coral, MTH coal tower, 397 coal loader, 362 barrel loader, 364 log loader, MTH log loader, and if I can fit them, a 164 log elevator, 97 coal loader, and more.

Personally, I like plans where trains can reverse from either direction. To me, it looks like if you have a train going "clockwise" you can reverse it but once it's going counter-clockwise you can't reverse it again. It's stuck going counter-clockwise forever and ever. (Unless you back up.)

Good point.  I can add two switch tracks as shown on the upper right.  The Railmodeler program doesn't have O42 switches in their program, so I simply used the O22s.  I am hoping to keep the outer loop all O42 curves.  It makes stringing catenary simpler.  Although I have O31 curves on my small layout at present with catenary, and it works well.

Another idea I came up with yesterday.  It's winter and it's colder than a witches T**t, so I have nothing better to do in the evening.

The orange track is elevated on Lionel "A" bents.  The two reverse loops consist of O42 and O72 curved track with O72 switch tracks.  Again I will have access to all sides.  The gray area is open space for my control center and an isle to walk into.  It will be about the same size as my first idea, 14' x 10'.

On the extreme left is where the 313 Bascule bridge will be placed.  The track to nowhere is the secondary track for the 350 Transfer table.  The little yellow dots on the track are either where I have to cut a special size.   I'm learning a bit more about railmodeler.
