I am happy to report that progress is happening. Today I am connecting the track and switches for final placement. It’s going well and feels good. The cardboard is the foot print of the engine shed.

I introduced the new layout to the kids and grandkids. I really enjoy having the switches. No power yet, as we continue to entertain. Moving rolling stock by hand in demo mode.
Congratulations on getting a great start!!
Beautiful work! I'm jealous!
Just a quick suggestion before you get the track "locked in". You have a reverse curve beginning between the first and second inside switches that will give you trouble down the road. Having made the same error, I know that you can compensate by straightening out that little right hand curve, extending that piece of track and then compensating on the other side of the second inside switch.
If necessary in order to make the rest of the layout work, you can always interlace or trim the "headblocks" (the long ties on which the switch machine is located) in order to squeeze the second switch closer to the first inside track. A 1:1 railroad would not have headblocks extend on both sides of the switch but only on the side where they must support the machine.
I know you're just trying to make things fit but a reverse curve without a foot or so between points-of-curve will put 'em on the ground. You may not be preparing to run 3RS, at the moment, but you certainly don't want to preclude doing so down the road. Tastes change and evolve. I should know, I may have to take out a second mortgage to pay my Kadee bill!
Thank you for taking time to comment. I see your point. I will give it a serious look next time I’m at the layout. Will keep you posted.
Not sure by looking at some of your other posts what the top layer of the layout is, homasote? Depending on how much realism you are looking for and if you plan on ever ballasting, you may want to throw cork under the track just to elevate the track. Up to you, though.
Good luck with your project.

I have flexxbed, but haven’t got it put down yet. I’m still working out the kinks in this design.
