Thanks for the detailed shots. If this is the ex-K Line running gear, it was modified quite a bit judging by the trailing truck snubber details behind the rear driver. So far it looks like the driver diameter is correct and the centers line up with major boiler features. Of course this is going by eye but it’s something I use to judge a model’s accuracy. It should be fun to compare to my 3rd Rail L1.

As for the color, I’m weathering mine anyway at some point.

Where is the B&M Berkshire I have been waiting for?

They broke the tooling?

Hoping no problems with that one.

That's one rumor.  Another is Lionel has had a falling out with the Korean manufacture and the tooling is being held hostage.  Thing is I heard both rumors from the same guy at Lionel so who knows what the real story is.  I'm not holding my breath for these.  Looks like I'll be holding on to my Kline berks for awhile.

Just received my L1 from Berkshire Station. Thought I’d share pics as I ordered a slightly different version than Chris. Here is my first impression.

First, it works great in forward and reverse pulling 7 21” passenger cars (that’s what I had on the track). No slipping or hesitation. It is back drivable. I’m not a fan of the banshee whistle in general, so glad is has another PRR option. Some like the train phone antenna and some don’t. But it adds extra detail and makes the model pop.

The green is light. Not awful, but about the same as my PRR Vision Class A. Or maybe a hair darker. Graphite smokebox looks great. Cab roof red is better than previous PRR models and looks good. The front step is black. I’m not sure if that’s prototypical or not, just an observation.

Eric, I ordered the same model. The green looks slightly darker than Chris's version, but as noted, that could very well be the lighting. I do know that the green should look like it is black at first until you get a better look at it, at least it is not cream green. Curious, if the guts inside are the same, maybe Chris's model was a fluke? IDK, when mine comes in, it will still be making the trip for Pat to help give an answer to all about what is or isn't going on.

My replacement L1 works beautifully. My original is looking more and more like an isolated issue. The chaos this created is why I hesitate to share issues early on.

This is where we talk trains good an bad Chris. Theres nothing wrong with alerting folks to a "potential" issue.

I recall when the H10 was released. GunrunnerJohn discovered the audio board in the tender was mounted incorrectly at risk of shorting. I checked mine and it was mounted correctly.

Overall I think this thread is going well, some just concern, but the talk is civil and Pat/harmonyards is there offering help even after the warranty is up.

Agreed Rick, ….no matter how small or large the problem is, or even if there’s a problem at all, the doomsday preppers come out of the woodwork no matter what,….in every civil discussion we have, there’s always a few,….so I don’t see any chaos, …..they weed themselves out just fine without our help!….😉

I am ready to buy a legacy B&M with whistle steam. Bad on Lionel. Lets get it done.

I have a Brass one with TMCC from 3rd Rail Sunset Models. Its very nice. Bought cheap on the Bay and am pleased with it. Does not smoke very well but looks great.

Here's my best guess relating to the chassis. MTH used their USRA Mikado chassis under the L1 boiler. Since MTH just produced a run of their USRA Mikado they still have that boiler/chassis tooling. Lionel probably purchased the L1 boiler tooling from MTH and adapted the Legacy USRA Mikado chassis to the L1 boiler.

Yep,….with a 385 guaranteed!!….😉

Suddenly, most of these are now running 2 months behind.

I wonder if it has something to do with that coffee grinder sound in Chris's video?

Yeah I don’t get it. The train phone version just says “out of stock” now at Charles Ro, while others are delayed. I haven’t got a shipping notice yet for the one I ordered though.

1369 arrived at my local train store on Wednesday. I won't be able to get down there to pick it up until next weekend as relatives are coming in tonight. Once I get it, like I said I'll send it down to Pat to have a look at the guts to see what is going on or what is not. This will definitely give an answer as to how things look inside. We just have to wait until I get it to Pat.

Thank you for sharing! Smokebox color looks to be back on point, the shade Brunswick on the L1 is okay but I still prefer the shade that is on the M1a better (...and yes with Lionel doing a true M1, we need to properly designate this an M1a now )

It would be very interesting to see the Lionel L1 next to one of the older MTH runs of the L1 with the same tooling

Here is a video of the Tuscan red version. Runs perfectly.

They’ve all run perfectly except for the one I happened to get. The red is a bit too light compared to the other Tuscan locomotives that have been released. They also were supposed to have train phone antennas and the delivered model doesn’t have it. This is a great model and unique look.
