Home are the Hunters: Love the detail on these Abrams; love the fact that they are coming home.

What a load! That's a real "depressed" flatcar.

Strap.....where did you get your Army figures at? They look great. Nothing like a military load on flat cars......tribute to our veterans and troops.

Hi Steve. Those are Verlinden Tank crew figures that I picked up at scale hobbyist. They make some great kits. You need to paint them, but its not difficult and rather fun. Here is a link:

Tamiya makes a US infantry kit with a figures and a Jeep that is very good as well. However, the Verlinden figures are more detailed.
I put my diecast cars/trucks on my flatcars. Whenever I get new vehicles, they get at least one trip around the track. Whatever I am currently working on, I find a way to haul it. Right now, it is "concrete" track supports. I also like to haul train parts...wheels, trucks, motors, etc... I'll have to take some photos.
great thread!

Here is a load I made up years ago with two idler flat cars and a drop end Lionel gondola to simulate a prototype bridge load I saw on the B&O back in the seventies.
The prototype bridge component load on the B&O railroad at Connellsville, PA.
I used a Atlas deck girder bridge as the load that was waaaaaay too long for the gondola and thus necessitated the idler flat cars on either end of the load. I tied the load down with the chains that are provided with the Lionel flatcars.

No offense taken Tony...But Damage?....What Damage???...Damage is in the eye of the beholder. No rips, cuts or tears. Only a couple of dents and dings. Besides, once these culvert pipes are buried whose going to see?

Here are a few pics that I just took...
PRR 16 wheel depressed center flat with Lionel load. I made two easy loads by putting framwork around spare Lionel motors. On the next track over, there is a Lionel flat with generator, drums, and wheels...it is from the Wreck Recovery Set and is used in my work train...
This one has a home-made track support...
This is my favorite stock K-Line car...it is a Timken flat with wheel/truck load...

Not much but they're all that I have.
For the lumber loads I was trying to get an effect like the way that loads used to be - not all perfectly cubical.

This is one of several JB Hunt trailers I custom decorated. Painting the doors yellow takes more time, but the result is worth it, I think:
Two more custom decorated trailers:

These are on a lionel 211 flat car.
This one would be a great one to model.

Never too early
Here is an old Lionel car that I painted the deck and added some misc cargo. Even these short cars benefit from some attention
Picked up this pair of F.E.C. Weaver flats recently that have some nice custom loads heading for a construction site
This is one of three Southern Pulpwood cars we have that I doctored up the load by painting the logs with several different colors to add realism

Yes, I know I need to load it with things, but these early K-Line depressed center flat cars (made from Marx molds) are ultra rare.
