I have a lion chief2 F3AA that I have a couple of problems with. I’m using a legacy controller. Admittedly when I first got the legacy controller I treated it like a fancy TMCC. I thought maybe that I accidentally changed settings; but reading over the manual I didn’t see anything that would address the problem. When I put the set in reverse the rear headlight does not come on and I don’t see any cab lights. In addition the rear coupler fires when I press the button; but does not open. When I change direction to go forward The front headlight lights and the cab lights are on until I increase the throttle. Not so in reverse.

I called Lionel they arranged for Warranty service; and then they mentioned that it was a 6 to 8 week turnaround. I asked if I could just bring it to my local hobby shop that is an authorized Lionel repair center. the young lady told me if I did that I would void the warranty and I said what part of authorized Lionel Repair you didn’t hear she said all Warranty work has to come to Lionel. She sent me all the paperwork to return the engine but thinking it over do I really want to give up the engine for two months do I really want to send it out and chance something else happening for these minor issues , I’m thinking if nothing else happens and the Warranty runs out then maybe I’ll take it over to the local hobby shop or even even open the cab myself and check for a loose board.  Thought process; let sleeping dogs lie. What would you do?
