Okay okay I purchased a lionel RIL 4-8-8 I love it's looks, but I understand they have bearing problems, I was wondering if it would be easier just replacing the motor or should I have the bearings replaced, I love the engine but don't have to alot of money. Thanks

Best/cheapest is to replace the bearings. The loco will work fine with the correct bearings BUT... much of the literature calls out the wrong bearings. You will have to research that.
Jim Barret did an OGR article pointing out the correct bearing numbers and showing how the literature lists the wrong ones.
I had a estimate of 150.00 plus parts, I think it's a bit expensive
Oh Geez yes that's too expensive. It's not that difficult of a job. A good repair shop should be able to do it for 50.00 or less.
