Hi All,

I'm having a problem with all the couplers on my 2400 series passenger cars (2421, 2422, 2423, 2429). They all open when going through my Ross switches. I did a search here on OGR but couldn't find any solutions to the problem.  I've "Dremel grinded" the hot shoes as per the Jim Barrett Backshop video but that hasn't made a difference. Putting orthodontic rubber bands around the couplers hasn't helped either (tried that first). I know I could "super glue" them but I'd like to save that as a last resort.

Does anyone have any "cures" you've done with your own cars that have worked?

Thanks.

Bob

After that, I'll get the super glue out...

The CA glue works well because the tensile strength is good but the shear strength is poor, making it substantially reversible - the glue just knocks right off. Another temporary non-destructible solution is to tether the sliding shoes into the retracted position with those smallest of the black zip ties that always come in those large assortments.

Also, you can try "painting" the sliding shoe rivet with a film of liquid electrical tape... also reversible but may wear off over time needing occasional reapplication.
