Lionel 6-28538 S-2 Switcher repair questions

Picked up a clean lightly run S2, but there is some physical damage. I would like to drop the rear truck, but a ton of electronics are hiding the area where the truck is likely mounted. Not real anxious to pull all that out, but I really would like to remove the truck. This is a single motor engine with drive couplings to both trucks. Anyone offer a suggestion?
