I have a set of Lionel Legacy Blue Comet passenger cars (6- 25655 ). Pieces have started to fall off the truck side frames, journal covers, brake shoes, etc. One truck broke off around the axle, making the car unusable. I now have a small bag of extra parts. 
I'm assuming it's the start of zinc pest.
It appears Lionel does not sell just the side frames, you have to buy the whole truck. However, they are unavailable. 
Anybody have any solutions?

Major league bummer. Would it be possible to 3-D print the sideframes and attach them in such a way that they will be strong enough to hold the axles?
Hennings did a run on Lionel's JCL GG1's sideframes awhile back that seemed very successful in returning them to service.

I had a friend who had a similar issues due to Zinc rot. His fix was to find the older heavyweight trucks and painted those to match.
