Hi All,

So I kind of made a "mistake" and bought a Lionel Classic Old No 7 loco and passenger car set. It was a live auction and I got a little carried away in the excitement. I own a Lionel Classic 44 Freight set so I'm familiar with the build quality but I never saw one of these brass No 7's in person. Anyone have the set and if so your thoughts?

Thanks,

Sam

Congratulations, I saw that set go for a good price today, I don't think there were many at the auction interested in modern reproduction standard gauge.

I do have that set.  Not crazy about the cars, but the locomotive is one of my favorites and gets a lot of run time.  I pull a set of three Jim Cohen brass day coaches behind it, so they all match the brass loco.  I think you will be impressed when it arrives; it's big, hefty, and the brass is gorgeous.  Not a mistake, for sure.

I keep the e-unit locked out and as a result I get very dependable service out of the engine, hauling the cars around various loops and figure-8's of tubular tinplate track.  Looks great, pulls great, a lot of fun.

Good to know, thanks. I just hit the bid button and had no idea that I would have gotten it for that price.

Why aren't you a fan of the cars?

No particular reason, they just don't do much for me.  Unfortunate color combination, I think.  Peculiar shade of yellow, a tad greenish.  They are certainly high quality, solidly built cars, but with other options available, they don't see the light of day much.

Thanks again all, sounds like I got a good deal on it and it's going to be a great train to run. Who knows it might be the new Christmas set next year. I don't have a large std gauge layout, actually it's a small loop as that's the only space I have but hopefully it won't be too small for this set. I can't wait to try it out
