Lionel has a couple of different large oil tank accesories with a resin base. This base is pretty solid. I beleive these measure about 10 inches square.

I may have enough space to fit one in, but may need to make a small cut to shoehorn it in to where I want it. I do have a Dremel tool, but it has been a while since I've used it. Is this the appropriate tool to cut the base with? It came with an assortment of blades, etc, but no guide as to what to use each one for. I remember breaking a few when I first got it and thinking 'Now why did that break so easily?'.

Thanks for any input.

Also, does anyone have one of these hooked up on thier layout? How do you like it?

phillman...I have those Lionel tanks and you may want to look at one carefully before you commit to cutting it. The tank comes on a base that has 4 sides that slide on to each edge of the base. Those sides are the black "gravel" piles that simulate what one would see around an oil tank to contain a major leak. The lighted walkways along with their associated wiring fit into holes within those sides. You may be able to just leave off one or more sides instead of cutting.

If you choose to cut, a large blade for your dremel would work best as the sides and base seem to be made of a casting resin of some sort. I don't like the bases and have been considering taking the tanks off but have not figured out how to do this yet since it appears that the tanks are glued down...don't want to break anything!!
