The cabin car (Pennsy-speak for caboose) in the coal set has a 1949-1955 paint scheme.  It probably represents one of the earlier years in the range since the roof would have been coated with tar (i.e., a black roof) if it leaked during that time period.  Yellow cupolas first appeared in 1961.  The link below has lots of information on paint and lettering changes over time.

I think the yellow cupola were late, as you say, and I think they were only applied to cabins in pool service on through trains.    I believe I read that in the PRRT&HS Journal.   It might be in the link above.

 

Note that you can always justify having an "older" paint scheme in service becaue the car has not been shopped yet.   

 

The black roofs started after WW II about 1945 and spread slowly through the fleet.
