on the off chance I may have to take my current layout down & build another in a different room, I was mulling this one over. Anyone ever build it, or have any input on it ?

I like the layout and have not built it. I like the two train operation, figure 8 and outside oval and neat layout details.
For your 8ft x 13ft size I will throw in another option, my main board layout diagram with outside oval and inside oval with figure 8 and a homemade turntable. Two train operation with lots of actions, size 11ft x 5ft-9in, as shown below.
The link below gives complete details on how I built it and the homemade $10 turntable, in case you have not seen it, the title is "Building and Evolution of an Action packed Fifties Era Lionel 027 Operating and Switching Layout".

I always liked that one. Interesting story about how they had to amend the track plan to show the hidden track that wasn't shown in the original. I couldn't build it because I only had room for a 5X9.

Hi Charlie,
I have no idea how I missed that awesome multi year thread. As someone whose layouts have been loosely based on the classic Lionel toy train/display type, I must say your layout and construction is now my very favorite I have seen in the 17 years I've been part of OGR. I say that even though I currently use the modern controls on my old style layouts.
I'll make some more specific comments on the original thread of the things I really like.
Nice work!
I have seen this layout featured a few times but can't remember any of the sources. Can you tell me the one that you feature it from?
Thanks.
One can see two train operation on the magazine illustration and three trains on the layout. Is there a page for the wiring and block power control?
The third train is on the inner diagonal in between the cross and a switch. A short train, but, interesting if that section is wired for a power cut-off.
Where would a second train park?
The clever layouts had specific length trains. The Dealer Display layout for the disappearing train required specific cars to make up the correct length to hide the train and be on the correct voltage section.
The track plan is interesting if it is O31.
I can tell from the photos that it's in a Kalmbach book - but which one?
hi`, i believe it`s Classic toy trains, from they`re layout design page on their website

First photo in the thread clearly shows a book/magazine. Although I get CTT, I don't pay for online access.
The “optional” crossover is a must if you want to get back inside once a train comes out.

Mallard4468, if you subscribe to CTT you are given access to the online library of layouts on the CTT website.

I have a copy of the plan if you can't find one.
The optional crossing over the water or elsewhere would be nice, allowing reversed travel on the outer loop.
With a full width siding along the outside/top of the inner loop and you have three loops to break into, which is the perfect "most" for one engineer to juggle in conventional imo.
Ah, maybe not I missed the whole right side need somehow.

Thanks guys. I was not aware that the layout library was available to regular CTT subscribers. Logged on and found it.
