Folks

I’ve been using RR Tracks since 07. I should just push all my chips in and go all SCARM, but I like RRTracks. I have a new computer. The problem is my 4.0 disk is readable, but won’t launch in Win10. My 5.0 disk is unreadable on 4 different computers, so I can’t load it.  I understand it’s a 1 person operation, but they won’t help me obtain a new copy of 5 where I can enter my SN. I’m not even sure another disk would work with my SN. Would anyone be willing to share a zipped their 5.0 disk, so I could try my SN? SCARM works and is the future, but dang I bought every O track, most N and 1 HO library. I don’t wanna change!!!!

If you still have the license number for your Ver 5, I would email to RRtrack, include your license number, and see if Russ Becker gets back to you with a solution. I had a similar problem quite a few years ago, and Russ got me new copies - just can't remember if a minor shipping type fee was required. Here is the contact website

Again, its be many years since I contacted Russ, but his email address was support@rrtrack.com back then.

How bad is the CD damaged? Physical broken or just scratches? If scratches and they are not to bad, you can use toothpaste to polish the surface. I tried this on a music CD and it worked. You can google this technique for more info. Be sure to polish the bottom or reverse side of the CD. The top/obverse side is the side with the writing on it.

FWIW: I had a similar situation happen as well, contacted Russ and we were able to get it worked out.

Ok, the other side of the story. He wanted me to prove it was broken. I offered to pay processing for a copy on a USB or an emailed/downloadable copy and he wasn’t interested, he wanted the disk back and if he found it had failed he’d respond. If I step back, that seems reasonable, except that it’s software in 2020.... And I’ve spent about as much money as you can on the one product, buying most of the N and O libraries piecemeal as my interests expanded. I’ve also suggested the software to anyone that’s ever asked.   If cleaning the disk as Alan Mancus suggested above doesn’t help, I’ll probably bag the program. I know when I bought the 5.0 upgrade, Russ put my libraries on the disk, so I’m not sure another copy would even work. Loading 4 on a Win10 computer wouldn’t  launch. I don’t remember if 4 was completely incompatible with Win 10. I’m not gonna go back and forth with Russ and maybe need 4 too. It’s not worth it. Software evolves. Products go obsolete. Companies come and go. The request for a zipped 5.0 that I could put my key into, was kinda a last ditch whine, before I move onto SCARM.

Thanks all
