Hello Everyone!!!

I am a member of the Lower Susquehanna Valley Modular Railroaders. We have a bridge that opens for us to enter and exit. Over the years this module has taken a beating and I have been wanting to build a new one. I am looking for suggestions or ideas to make one..........one that not only functions flawlessly but one that also looks GOOD on a layout. The bridge we have now is very cumbersome to get setup and working properly, plus many of our members are of the retired status, if you know what I mean, and need a lower floor, not something they have to climb over. Any help at all will be appreciated. Look for us at York TCA this spring, we should be in the orange hall! THANKS!!!!

PS. I doubt we will have time to build a new one before the show, so please don't expect to see a new opening bridge module. Thanks Again!

The trick is that the bridge module has to be pretty rigid with the bridge up. In my Tinplate Tracker days, we had a "geriatric module" (bridge) designed and built by Howard Packer. I'll see if I can track down pictures and/or the design. As I recall, it was 4' long and had a 30-32" opening. It was hinged above the tracks at the gap. A re-design would allow below-track hinges if the hinges were off-set from the edge of the gap and would allow the addition of a fake girder or truss bridge around the road bed for better aesthetics.

I'll see what I can dig up.

These gates are awesome, only issue I can see is that our club is modular, so this would have to be all in one piece and be rigid. The rigidity seems to be the big problem, as things loosen up over time and the floor is never perfect.
