Hey Guys,

I am looking to purchase a copy of the RR Track software. The question I have is, what version do I need? There seems to be a number of options and I am a bit confused. I am a scale modeler and I run Lionel Fastrack O72. Can anybody give me a clue as to what version I need? Thanks in advance!

There is only one version of the software, however it comes with different track libraries. They all have Fastrack included, so you can probably buy the RRT-50A-OGSP $79 product.

The RRT-50A-LNLFST1 item also appears to have what you need at only $69.

I agree that his ordering process could be a LOT simpler. Too many choices with very slight changes between the options.

I see that cost increases but all seems same features to me. But seems like all track libraries are included now. As version 4.? I had to buy Lionel MTH Ross Gargraves libraries as separate sale items. Maybe the mobile website I'm using not same as a desktop website.

but I would call them if possible so you get the one you need think ahead get all you can as in time one tends to use different vendors track switches and accessories.

The larger packages may save you a little money up front, however if you ever decide you would like to use something you don't have in your original package the track libraries can be purchased separately and added later.

I forget which package I started with, but I thought it would be all I would ever need. It wasn't too long before I was adding another library or two here and there. I started out using Fastrack and Realtrax and have now ended up using Atlas track and switches which I now plan to stick with, I really like the Atlas track system.

As StPaul said above, calling might be your best bet and they could help you with your selections and maybe save you a little money in the process.

They also have some libraries of sample layouts in a few different track systems which might be nice for someone just starting out (as I was also doing a few years ago). They are nicely done, but unfortunately they were also all at extra cost if I remember correctly.

It's a very capable program. If you take the time to learn it well you can do some really nice track designs. I am not one of them, but there are several folks on the OGR forum that are very well versed in using it and they will help you if you need assistance.

Good luck and have fun.

Thanks guys! I appreciate all the great advice! I will look to see if they have a contact number before I decide which package to purchase. I really think I am leaning toward the O guage package at $79. Like you guys said, I can always add to it as I venture into different manufacturers. The other issue I am having is that I have so much invested in fastrack and their command switches, I don't know if my budget will allow me to switch at this point. When I started buying track my lhs only carried fastrack, and so I wasn't made aware of the other manufacturers.

At bottom of RR track softwares web page it shows a contact it only allows email or snail mail no phone number.

I would use email and ask what all is included in base price! When I bought mine way back each library had track switches and from prewar to postwar to modern buildings included with the Lionel MTH libraries.

I never got into the elevations and scenery aspect of this software but trust me it works very well and once you start using it things start to make sens. Unless they changed it has a help feature that you can use while working in the program I'm sure you won't regret purchasing it.

At this point, I would go with the $79 option. Then do the tutorial that is included which is pretty good and gives you the basics. It is like most computer programs... the more you use it, the better and easier it is.

You can always add more.

We have used it for a couple of years and about have our layout design completed. We have been pleased at how comprehensive the program is. It also loads easily and updates work well.

Good luck.
