LSU via WiFi Connection Issue

What version of Legacy are you using? Seems like you have to have 1.52 or later...

I think I have v1.51 currently but now my Cab2 won't come on.  It has been sitting in it's box for a little over a year (I did take the batteries out when I packed it up).  It came on shortly after I set it up today but now it won't come on at all.  I tried new alkaline batteries with no luck.

I started all this with the intention to go to 5.2 which I haven't yet accomplished....so that could be the problem with the WiFi.  I did make a cab2 module with v5.2 but I can't load it because the Cab2 won't come on.

Any problem with taking the base to v5.2 first knowing that I can't yet upgrade the Cab2?

I think you can take the base to 1.52, as to turning on the cab, press a little harder on the button just to see. One of mine is a little that way. Also rotate the batteries in the cab some to clean and oxide of the contacts from sitting...and make sure they are new.

Ok, I upgraded the base to v1.53 and now the wireless setup works like a charm.

Now, I have to figure out what to do with a Cab2 (the only one I have) that won't turn on...nor blinking red light, no screen display...nothing!

Oh, batteries....yup, did that!  New Alkalines.

I'm going to try to clean the contacts to see if that will help....

Cleaning the battery contacts and bending out the little contact tabs didn't help.  Still no response from the Cab2?

Also, does anyone know the purpose of the little grey reset button on the back of the cab2?  It didn't seem to help either....

Well, other than sending it to Lionel, all I can think of is making absolutely sure the batteries are 1.5 v under load and installed the right way. I don't know about the reset button underneath or if it resets anything or when. Now that you have a base, make a cab update and try the update procedure. Push hard on the ctc button and hold it for a few seconds while holding set with the update module inserted.

Of course you can use your iPad to run trains without the cab till it's fixed. That's probably the future.

If you're used new batteries, that's about it.  The reset button does the same thing as taking the batteries out.

I'm going to theorize that this was caused by the charging unit.  This 990 was one of the early ones off the line.  However, my original rechargeable batteries always worked fine so I never sent it in to have the charging unit fixed.  When I set this up yesterday, I put those original batteries in and tried to charge them.  The lights on the based flashed red together (not alternating) but I couldn't find any documentation of what that meant.  So, I'm guessing it meant that that something was wrong with the batteries or the Cab2...and perhaps it fried something in the Cab2.

The lights flashing together means battery over-temperature.  From the Legacy User's Manual.

I would say it was more of a "Both Slow blink red simultaneously while in charging mode".

Battery temperature should not have been high as the lights did this immediately upon placing in the base.

I'd say it's the last thing in the table, bad batteries.
