This is a great reference for Sears train sets. Also has Lionel. Sear reused set numbers on occasion. 9626 shows up in 1954, but does not match your set. It shows up again in 1962 and it is "close" to your set. The lumber car was not part of the set.

Glad to have been able to help. I just happened to have that book next to my chair while researching some H0 sets.

The chugger Marx used on those low end locomotives was simple and genius however it was one of the few things Marx did that was not durable. It consisted of a piece of plastic between the two steam cylinders and a L shaped piece of copper. One of the side rods would hit the copper strip causing it to hit the plastic. Not much at low speed, but actually was pretty good at running speed.
