Hello everybody, I was wondering if any of you people know any reliable MARX keys for sale that that are strong, because the last time I got A key what happened was it broke on before I could finish winding up. So if any of you know A reliable cheap MARX wind up key because I would hate to see The Mercury out of operation for any longer.

I'll second that. Robert Grossman is the go-to guy for a wide variety of Marx parts made in USA.

At the train show over the weekend I found a plastic Marx clockwork engine. One of those gray plastic 401's that are supposed to be harder to find than black plastic ones.
Anyway, I spotted the gray Marx engine and went to investigate and noticed the lever on the side of the boiler rather than behind the stack on the battery loco I have and thought it might be a wind up. Sure enough. Looking at the bottom it looked like the mainspring was not connected at its end. I asked the guy selling it if he had the key.
"Key? What key? It don't need no key, it's electric!" I turned the loco so he could see the bottom of it and he was surprised. He had no clue it was clockwork! I asked him the price and he said $45 and any clock shop could fix me up with a winding key! I said I'd have to think about it and walked on.
I wonder what he would have said if I asked him if it ran before I mentioned the need for a key! LOL
I have never had a original Marx key or one from Grossman break or even twist a little. They are good quality.
